The Seventh Solitude
I explore generative form by emulating geologic processes. I mine materials such as sand, shells and seaweed for sources of silicon dioxide, calcium carbonate and sodium carbonate. I fuse these materials using temperatures characteristic to the earth's interior. The object's physical properties reflect the excavation site's local geology. Emergent properties and self-organizing systems allow these materials to manifest geological growths and blooms of crystallization caused by different rates of cooling.
